In the movie, you see a sign 'Don't step on the mome raths', which points to these creatures. So they are supposed to be mome raths.

I don't think they had a name. That scene wasn't part of the original book, it was based on The Jabberwocky (hence The Tulgey Wood) so I always assumed that they were either slithy toves, borogroves, or mome raths.
